The Virgin and Child with St Anne and St John the Baptist

I think this is my favorite piece of art. It is know as Da Vinci's Cartoon and hangs in the National Gallery in London.

In 1987 someone came into the gallery and shot the painting with a shot gun! Luckily the museum was able to repair it to almost exactly how it looked before the attack....

  2. The picture itself is about 1.5m tall and about 1m across, so is rather large. When you are standing in front of it you can see the detail of the characters and the precision of the drawing. I think the faces are really beautiful, they have peaceful expressions.

I also had this as a poster on my wall when I was a kid and kind of grew up looking at it. If you are ever in London you can see it at The National Gallery - it has a room of its own.
